 "automatic" words
There are several words which *always* enter my mind at the beginning of certain categories, even when feedback shows them to be incorrect (at least as far as I can tell). Knowing this, should I declare these "pest" words as AOL, since they seem to be preconditioned, or just write them down?
In Textures, I always get "gritty" and "grainy" first, and an image of sand or sandpaper always enters (which I declare as AOL). In temperatures, I always get "burning hot" first. In Colors, I always get "white" and usually "red".
I don't know whether these are good data or preconditioned reactions to starting the respective category. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Perhaps we all do it.
"Smooth" "Soft" ...
Just get it out of your system and objectify it on the page!

 Re: "automatic" words
Zorg, how many total sessions, in your estimation, have you ran since you began RV? It may signal an important point in RV development since it seems to happen to many of us.

 Re: "automatic" words
I'd estimate 40 sessions.
When I think about these categories when not doing a session, these same descriptors come to mind, so that also causes me to be wary of them. Thanks everyone for the input.

 Re: "automatic" words
I agree. I had this problem for a while also. Resolve to correct the problem, but by all means, write down every descriptor that comes to mind. Anything that you don't trust you can X out during the error trapping stage.

keep practicing. Ihad this problem too-- happened because of lack of focus and target varity. It will go away when you learn how your mind gives you data and you can control it so that you don't free associate words.

At the moment I have the same problem. Is this gonna fix itself through training? Or do I have to do something actively?

Sphinx wrote: At the moment I have the same problem. Is this gonna fix itself through training? Or do I have to do something actively? All the posts in this thread are just as appropriate now as they ever were. It seems to happen to many remote viewers at a certain point in their training and it seems to go away. If you notice during a session that you have written your pet descriptors, it is a sign that you are thinking. And thinking is a no-no. When you write a descriptor down, you should not be evaluating that descriptor, you should be thoughtlessly awaiting the next perception. It is about the only time being thoughtless is a positive attribute. I might add that I have been informed that I excell at thoughtlessness.

Zorg:
I don't believe its a "habit". RV is an attention management skill, plan and simple. You're not managing your attention on the target. You're not picking up the target signal line.
The answer is practice.. its not a bad habit, it's lack of experience. My guess is you just aren't a good RV yet..and how could you be with 40 sessions? Again practice to solve that problem.
I've suggested a few times in this forum that it is inappropiate to be asking questions like this until you do a few hundred sessions. I think these types of questions are a sign of likely failure, in as much as you want RV to work NOW. It simply doesn't work that way. So you start "thinking" what am I doing? how am I doing it? Is there a better way? etc.. All deadly thoughts. Ed taught you the correct way to RV. Just do it a few hundred times and don't ask questions all your question will be answered with practice and work... Hope that helps. Alex
If you continue to "think" you are dooming yourself.

 Re: "automatic" words
Zorg, You may be moving too slow... Make yourself write the descriptors so fast (or just fast enough) that you don't have time to pick/choose/contemplate/think of what you're going to write next. I like to rationalize it to myself by saying, "I'm randomly picking words and writing them down so fast that my unconscious mind has to 'randomly' pick them for me." And your unconscious WILL PICK CORRECTLY (more often than not). Also keep in mind that (I can't remember if it was Ed who said this at the beginner class) the word descriptors are just a 'framework' to get you closer to the target and to not place too much significance on them. Which makes sense, because most of the textures and colors on the list can be found just about everywhere (at some level)...unless you're RVing an ocean or icecap.

Scaffolding -- not 'framework.'

 Re: "automatic" words
Yeah, this has started happening more and more to me too recently.
My main problem is I always get the AI: calm or interested, bored or impressed and I also have curved and pointed too often at dimensions.
It most likely happens because I had too many targets with those descriptors so I am considering revisiting my word list to expose my mind to the other words.
I also remember going through a Katy Perry phase 2 years ago. I wonder how that went away.

It has been getting worse in S2. My latest affliction is:
soft wet hard metallic brown grey...
...then the real data starts to trickle in.
