Post S6 confusion mop-up
Occasionally I get questions by PM, and most of them deal with confusion over certain parts of RV procedure which are not appearing consistent in disjunct forum notes often spanning many years. S6 is the worst offender, and reading through the topics under this section really seems to be giving conflicting advice. Some clarification and collation would not hurt, and several threads should probably be moved to the archive. About the latter I don't want to decide alone though.

As for S6, to put these questions to rest: It is a stage continuing the present session being worked upon, not a follow-on (new) session. A S6 may be performed on the entire site or an element thereof or a specified detail thereof.

Follow-on cues that take the viewer to a new vantage point (e.g. 'From 100 m south of the target SSBP') or lead to a derivative target (origin, source, purpose etc.) create a new session and do not constitute a S6. This has been misconstrued in the past, or maybe the poster meant it right but the leap is missed too easily by the reader.

Further clarification seems to be needed about the difference between a derivative target and a specified detail of the current target. The best known examples are probably 'location/flag' or 'person/face'. I'm a little lost how to express this clearly myself, anyone have something wise and concise would be appreciated. Also pointers to previous posts which got overlooked.

If any of the above is erroneous, it means I picked up confusion myself and should get this fixed urgently before being able to spread the contagion.
