Post Formulating U.S
When formulating a cue for the United States of America, is it acceptable to use the abbreviation "U.S." For example: "U.S. mainland / next...." or is it more precise to use "United States of America mainland / next....."

same question for U.S.S.R instead of Russia.

"U.S.S.R. instead of Russia?!"

(Funny...when I sought out a web link to emphasize your ignorance of world history, the immediate pop-up was http://communityassociations.net/ca124/ -- my father served as a gunner's mate aboard the Rochester during the Korean War)

(Funny...

You shouldn’t assume to much.

Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, the USSR or CCCP (Russian) the Soviet Union, was a Marxist–Leninist state on the Eurasian continent that existed between 1922 and 1991. (and not Soviet Russia) What was left of it became the Russian Federation, Russia, on December 26, 1991. Yes, I know.

The point being, if when formulating a cue to find details on the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, the USSR I would not use “Russia” or the “Russian Federation” in the cue, and vice versa.

I hope we are on the same page. (yes, I do know you know far more about this subject than I)

For your other readers there is a reasonable dissertation on the above subject here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_Union

(P.S. interesting choice USS R)

I don't know if 'we are on the same page,' because I still don't know what page you are on.
